Mongolian

Ulaanbaatar-However the name is very revolutionary as Red Hero; the capital city was settled on its present site in 1778.

Ulaanbaatar is surrounded by four mountains and located in the transition zone between the vast grassy steppes to the south and the seemingly endless taiga forests of Siberia to the north.

Ulaanbaatar has numerous sights, attractions and events. Here are some of them:

Natural History Museum: with its world-famous collection of dinosaurs and quite astonishing dinosaur eggs-still in their nests. It has meteorites, minerals and more humble fossils such as graptolites. The displays on wildlife are magnificent and a considerable help in identifying the mammals and birds of Central Asia.

Winter Palace of Bogd Khan: is a traditional Mongolian architecture built in 1903. Mongolia's last unitary head of State and religious leader-the Bogd Khan-Mongolia's 8th Living Buddha lived here until 1924.

Bogd Khan Mountain: adorns the south side of Ulaanbaatar. It is one of the worshipped mountains and has enjoyed state protection since 1778 making it one of the first protected places in the World. Its peak is Tsetsee Gun, 2,257 meters above the sea level. The mountain has over 220 species of herbs. Red Deer, Musk Deer, Siberian Deer, Siberian Ibex and Wild Boar, also Common Buzzard, Woodpecker and Stork have been recorded here.

Zaisan Hill: The hill is on the heart of Bogd Khan Mountain. It is the best place to view Ulaanbaatar and it has a historical memorial dedicated to the Victory Day of WW II.

Manzshir Monastery and Museum: lies on the southern part of the mountain of Bogd Khan in distance of 51 kilometers from Ulaanbaatar. The Monastery enjoys a beautifully stunning setting, being surrounded by forest of Siberian Larch with a backdrop of natural granite cliffs eroded into "tors" of huge rounded boulders, many thousands fallen from the cliffs to make a grassy block fields spreading out in to the forest. The Museum introduces some of the wildlife and natural beauties of the area, before a short walk brings you to the monastery. You can see Deer and other rare animals in the vicinity. There is a big boiling kettle cast in bronze in 1726 for cooking for 1000 people at one time. You can climb up to the top of granite cliffs for splendid views and see the peak of Bogd Khan Mountain. The peak is still a three-hour hike away.

Gandan Monestery: Listen to the tranquil chanting of monks at the Gandan Monastery, home to an 80-foot-tall Buddha.

Black Market: It might be an interesting place for foreign visitors. Many people survive on this place by selling and buying items as smallest as match, as biggest as huge pure wool carpet. You may find stuff ten times cheaper in USA and with same quality.

Enjoy eating: There are restaurants of different nations. One that has not been set up yet can be your future business.

Naadam Festival: the most famous celebration of the traditional way. Wrestling, archery and horse-racing are the Three Main Games of Men which are rooted in the mists of antiquity and continue to be very popular among the Mongols today. In 12th-13th century, military festivals were widespread, at which men tried their strength and their steeds' agility. From the 17th century onwards, Naadam contests were held regularly during religious holidays. Since 1922, they have been held on the anniversary of the people's revolution on 11-13 July. A huge nomadic tent city is constructed for the occasion, thousands of gers, hard to believe when for the rest of the year the grassland is left to nature and herds of grazing animals.
